Celebration Of Welsh Contemporary Painting at Cynon Valley Museum 28 November – 21 December 2024

Celebration Of Welsh Contemporary Painting 2024 sees the fourth series of exhibitions across north, south, mid and west Wales, to celebrate Welsh contemporary painting, from July 2024. The number of venues participating has increased each year since the ‘celebration’ began in 2017.

As in previous years the aim of is to give exhibition space to some of Wales’s most significant painters, those who are up and coming and high-quality work from students in colleges and/or schools. The range of artists will increase along with the numbers, as the focus is broadened to include objects including painted ceramics, sculpture and more besides. Alongside the exhibitions will be a series of community events for people of all ages.

Cynon Valley Museum in Aberdare is taking part for the first time with an exhibition of work by three South Wales artists, Judith Beecher, Barbara Castle and Karin Mear.

Meeting Of Minds

Art Central, Barry CF63 4RW

2 November – 11 January 2024

Each member of Sculpture Cymru has invited a sculptor from Wales to show together as guests.  Its hundred plus works show the wide variety of materials, practices and visions of the artists involved.

The exhibition will broaden the profile of the group and make connections across Wales, not only with other sculptors, but also with the general public.  It will also further the aims of the group to promote sculpture in Wales.

Artists in Dialogue

7 October – 27 November 2024

This exhibition is the second partnership between Makers Guild Wales and Celebration of Welsh Contemporary Painting.
Six craft makers and six contemporary painters currently working in Wales were last year invited to create partnerships/pairings – beginning a dialogue about their professional art practices over the months leading to the exhibition at Craft in the Bay.
This exciting project brings together makers & artists across Wales, some of whom had never met previously. Each has found shared interests, inspiration and enthusiasm for stepping outside their ‘comfort zones’ to explore new approaches to their work, new materials and making techniques. Their creative conversations, studio visits and sharing materials has led to very exciting developments with their artwork as well as many new friendships with fellow creatives!
Artists ‘pairings’ include: Beate Gegenwart & Catrin Webster / Clare Revera & Flora McLachlan Helen Higgins & James Donovan Pamela Jones & Jacqueline Alkema / Ruth Shelley & Eloise Govier / Ann Catrin Evans & Karin Mear
Co-curators: Beate Gegenwart, Jacqueline Alkema, Charlotte Kingston
Makers Guild Wales is delighted to be partnering with Celebration of Welsh Contemporary Painting.  15 other galleries have joined in this celebration of Welsh Contemporary Painting – their website shows the other galleries and the dates of their special exhibitions.
